What Is Walk and Talk Therapy?

Walk and Talk therapy is a form of counseling where the therapist and client walk outdoors together during the therapy session instead of meeting for their entire session in a traditional office.

This approach can help reduce anxiety, improve emotional processing, and create a more natural conversation flow.

How Is Walk and Talk Therapy Different From Traditional Therapy?

Both approaches use evidence-based counseling techniques provided by licensed therapists. The primary difference is the environment. Instead of sitting across from your therapist in an office, sessions take place outdoors while walking at a comfortable pace.

Many clients find that walking:

  • Reduces social pressure
  • Encourages more open conversation
  • Helps organize thoughts
  • Decreases nervous system activation
  • Increases mindfulness
